Nathaniel Massie, son of Charles Jr., born November 22, 1794, died December 5,
1870 is buried next to his second wife, Elizabeth Frances Rodes, 1809-1876,
whose stone is broken into pieces. Nathaniel's stone reads:
honorable positions in public life, he was loved, esteemed and respected in
them all. He died as he had lived a sincere Christian man"
"Nathaniel was for a considerable period of his life a successful
merchant in Waynesboro, but as his years increased, he returned to the old
homestead on the borders of Nelson, where he died. He was twice married,
first to Susan, daughter of Michael Woods, son of Col. John and secondly to
Elizabeth, daughter of Matthew Rodes.
